S-type load cells are mainly used to measure tension, but also suitable for pressure measurement. As the name suggests, these load cells are shaped like the letter S. The spring element is located in the center beam of the load cell. The element is a piece of metal that elastically deforms under load and recovers when the load is removed. This deformation or strain is detected by strain gauges mounted on the spring element and converted into an electrical signal. In S-type load cells, the spring element is deformed at both ends by compression or tension. Compared to other load cells, S-type load cells can be calibrated in units of weight as well as in Newtons because they are widely used as force sensors.

Type S load cells are commonly used in weighing equipment for small to medium loads up to 10 tons. They are installed in mixing scales, silo scales, crane scales, big bag weighing equipment, crane scales and similar equipment, and are also used as force transducers in tensile strength and fatigue testing machines.

Since Type S load cells are primarily used in industrial applications, they are designed to withstand harsh environmental conditions. Type S load cells comply with the requirements of IP65 to IP68 (protection against ingress of dust, splashing, splashing or temporary immersion). S-type load cells are generally selected according to key parameters such as their rated load, ultimate or breaking load, and minimum scale division. When a load cell is used as a force sensor, the result is expressed in Newtons. From the above data, the designer of the weighing equipment can determine its accuracy and allowable tare weight.
